SEO strategy for B2B SaaS

B2B SaaS SEO Strategy for 2026: Rank on Google and Get Recommended by AI

A B2B SaaS SEO strategy for 2026: which pages to build first, how to pick keywords you can win, and how to get cited and recommended in AI search.

Short answer

What is a good SEO strategy for a B2B SaaS company in 2026?

Build pages in the order buyers need them: pricing, comparisons, alternatives, use-case and integration pages first, category guides and glossaries last. Choose keywords by reading the first page, not by volume alone. Keep the technical basics tight for Google, Bing and OpenAI's search crawler. Then get onto the third-party lists AI answers cite, because in our data they supplied 85% of the sources. Measure Google rankings and AI recommendations separately: winning one does not mean winning the other.

What changed

Buyers now ask an AI for a shortlist before they search for a vendor.

A buyer who asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Mode for “the best invoicing tool for a 50-person company” gets three to five names, not ten links. Those names come from the pages the engine reads. In our study of 768 citations, vendors' own sites were 11% of the sources, and Perplexity Sonar cited Reddit in 28 of its 32 answers. SEO still decides whether your pages are found. It no longer decides alone whether you are recommended.

What to build first

Keyword research

How to find SaaS keywords you can actually win

  1. 01

Start with the queries you already appear for.

In Google Search Console, sort queries by impressions and look at positions 5 to 30. These are the cheapest wins: Google already connects you to them.

  2. 02

    Collect the words buyers use.

Google autocomplete, "People also ask", sales-call notes and support tickets. Keep the buyer's wording, including "vs", "alternatives", "pricing" and "for [segment]".

  3. 03

Get volumes from Google Ads Keyword Planner.

Use them to rank, not to promise traffic. Many good B2B queries show 10 to 50 searches a month and still convert.

  4. 04

Read the first page before you choose.

If it is forums, small blogs and thin vendor pages, you can win it. If it is HubSpot, Semrush and G2, wait until the site has authority.

  5. 05

    Write one page per intent.

"[brand] pricing" and "[brand] vs [competitor]" are different searches. One page that tries to answer both usually wins neither.

Technical basics

Five technical checks for Google, Bing and ChatGPT search

  • Every money page is indexable, canonical and in the sitemap.
  • Pages render their main text in the HTML, including prices and plan limits.
  • The site is verified in Bing Webmaster Tools and pings IndexNow on publish; ChatGPT search draws on search partners, and OpenAI points to Microsoft's.
  • robots.txt and the CDN allow OAI-SearchBot, so pages can appear in ChatGPT search.
  • The homepage and footer link to the pricing, comparison and use-case pages.

The ChatGPT side is covered step by step in how to show up in ChatGPT search results, and the free AI crawler checker reads your robots.txt.

Off-site

Get onto the pages AI answers read.

Ask five buyer questions in two or three AI engines and open the sources. The same few comparison articles, list posts and review pages tend to come back. Being listed on them, with a current description and price, does more for AI recommendations than another post on your own blog. It also earns the links that Google rankings still depend on. The guide on how to get ChatGPT to recommend your product shows how to find and approach them.

Measurement

Measure Google and AI search separately.

Google

Clicks, impressions and position for the pricing, comparison and use-case queries in Search Console, plus signups from organic landing pages. Judge money queries one by one, not the sitewide average: rank-tracking tools can inflate impressions on popular queries.

A 90-day plan

A B2B SaaS SEO plan for the next 90 days

Days 1–30

Fix the technical list above. Publish or rewrite the pricing page and comparison pages against the two or three competitors buyers name most. Write down 20 buyer questions and record what Google and ChatGPT show for them today.

Days 31–60

Publish use-case and integration pages for the segments you sell to. Add alternatives pages for the competitors you win deals from. Link all of them from the pages that already get impressions.

Days 61–90

Find the third-party lists that answers cite for your category and ask to be included, accurately. Publish one honest category guide. Rerun the 20 questions and compare with day 1.

Common mistakes

Four SaaS SEO mistakes that cost the most time.

Starting with top-of-funnel blog posts.

They take the longest to rank and convert the least. Build the pages closest to a purchase first.

Chasing keywords that big brands own.

A first page of HubSpot, Semrush and G2 is not a target for a young site, whatever the volume.

Hiding prices behind "Contact us".

Buyers filter by budget, and so do the answers they read.

Measuring only rankings.

A page can rank on Google while ChatGPT recommends a competitor for the same question.
